The Freelance Media Network Community Guidelines
These guidelines are our rules for the membership on Circle.
If you’re a member, they were in the Typeform you filled out when you applied to join. If you’re considering membership, please take a moment to read over them before going ahead. You also might want to take a look at the Circle Terms and Conditions and also their Privacy Policy as joining TFMN means signing up to Circle.
These guidelines are designed to make this a collaborative space for all our members! By going ahead with membership you agree to abide by these rules.
They’re designed to make the community experience smoother and more enjoyable for everyone.
1. The core values of the The Freelance Media Network (TFMN) are respect, connection, collaboration and community. By becoming a member you agree to abide by the ethos of these values, through your behaviour and your adherence to these guidelines.
2. The Freelance Media Network is run by Jenny Holliday – formerly Jenny Stallard - and replaces the No1 Freelance Media Women Facebook group which will archive on September 30th 2026. There are no replacement Facebook groups for the No1 Freelance Media Women. Beware of imitations!
3. The Freelance Media Network is for media professionals – staff and freelance, any gender. To be a member you need to be an actively working member of the press/tv/radio/media in some capacity. We don’t accept those who blog/write/podcast as a side hustle and we’re not a matchmaking group for small business owners. TFMN welcomes copywriters and designers who work in or with the media. When you join you’ll be asked to show website/LinkedIn to confirm. Memberships cannot be shared or transferred - anyone found doing this will be contacted to discuss.
4. You agree to the following:
• I agree not to post unnecessary photos or gifs which might clog up the feed
• I agree not to publicise external groups outside of the channels in the group unless someone has asked for advice specific to what I offer
• I agree not to share content from the FMN elsewhere (eg screen grabs or copy and paste)
• I agree not to DM other members outside of the threads unless asked
• I agree not to sell my own product or group either on the platform or via DM
• I agree not to share contacts unless I have permission
• I agree not to share posts from the group in my own community without permission
• I agree that by adding my email to a post I may be contacted by other members
• I confirm I have understood the ‘three rule breaks and you’re out’ terms
5. Any member found direct messaging other members to promote their own business, or services/products or using the group to make money in any way will be removed immediately. This includes ‘offering to share’ someone’s post or shout out in your own community or membership.
6. Contacts and sharing contacts. You agree not to ask for or to share private email addresses. Staff may share emails in their posts – that’s up to them. A search of the group may help you find what you’re looking for. We’re here to build connections, not just give out email addresses.
7. Don’t sell to another member in the messages. If someone posts something and you think you can help, post as a comment reply. Constantly saying ‘I can help, come and join my community/group/follow me/DM me’ is spammy. Ask yourself: Would we be able to do this in your community/group?
8. Selling and using the correct channels (You also agree not to sell in the comments). This includes other paid for platforms, as well as companies you work for, including but not limited to Inteletravel, Utility Warehouse and Tropic skincare. It also includes networking groups such as BNI, and it also includes Lightbulb, Media Matchmaker, Editorielle and other PR networking groups which charge a fee, as well as Facebook groups.
9. As a member of the Freelance Media Network, you agree to post on the relevant channels in the group.
10. No nasty, sarcastic or unhelpful comments. Comments which do not add to a discussion will be removed. Comments which are unsupportive, do not offer help or support or are offensive will be removed and membership discussed. Please remember, this is not a social media platform or Facebook group: It is a professional community.
11. The FMN reserves the right to decline/cancel membership at any time at the founder’s discretion.
12. Don’t bad mouth the FMN elsewhere. If we find out that you do, you’ll be removed and a lifetime ban will follow. If you wouldn’t say it to your mum/on LinkedIn/to a senior editor, don’t say it on another community. If you feel the need to say negative things about this community, it’s probably not right for you. Do not share screenshots of this group outside the group.
13. With every rule break you’ll be sent a polite reminder of the terms and conditions. Three rule breaks will lead to removal.
14. If you change your career and no longer work in the media you’ll need to cancel your membership.
